Martin + Support + Training
Martin joined the Royal Air Force in 1988 and was invalided out in 2010. He found himself without a home, a job or much savings.
He eventually found a job before severe health problems forced him to leave. Martin struggled with weight gain and doctors became concerned and recommended lifestyle changes.
The 49-year-old has been out of work since and now has ambitions of going into teaching – a role he feels would suit his communication skills.
About seven years ago Martin was referred to Finchale Group via the Royal British Legion. He met Case Manager Angela Kelly who has helped him since.
Angela is just a phone call or email away when Martin needs support on a whole range of issues from managing debt, to building new skills and applying for jobs.
His confidence has grown and a recent run of job interviews has made him sure an opportunity is just around the corner.
In fact Martin is due to start a foundation degree in Childhood Studies soon, as another positive step towards a teaching job. In addition Martin devotes time to volunteering in and around his home town of Northallerton – including for the Secret Garden community project, the Northallerton parkrun and Thirteen Group’s customer council.
"Angela is fantastic. She's always there to answer my questions, whether it’s a phone call, an email or to visit me at home. She consults with other team members – who each have their own expertise – to make sure I get the best possible help."
